Golf apps that build training plans from your scorecard data

A training plan built from your rounds is a different product from one built from your handicap, and one question separates them: does the plan change when your data changes? If two golfers with the same index and different problems get the same sequence, the scorecard was decoration.
Turning a score into something actionable
A round of 92 contains no instruction. The same round split into components usually contains exactly one.
Fairways hit says whether the tee shot puts you in position. Greens in regulation is the number most correlated with score at every level. Putts separate a bad striking day from a bad putting day, which look identical in the score column. Scrambling says whether the short game rescues an ordinary round. Penalty strokes explain the blow-up hole that none of the other four will show, because a double bogey with a penalty and one without look the same on the card.
Together they turn "I played badly" into "I lose strokes to approach shots from 120 to 150 metres", which is a sentence you can practise. The mechanics of recording them are in how to track fairways, GIR and putts.

Everything depends on the input
This is where the category divides, and it is not about the algorithm.
Automatically captured shots are the best input available. Sensors record every shot with no forgotten ones and no rounds abandoned on the twelfth when the card fell apart. Arccos is the established answer here, and its strokes-gained analysis is trustworthy in a way hand-entered data is not because the sample is not biased towards the rounds you were enjoying. No phone-only app, ours included, matches that completeness.
Manually recorded rounds are good enough for the job, provided you record the bad ones. Five marks per hole locate a leak perfectly well. The failure mode is not imprecision, it is selection — a golfer who stops logging when the round falls apart builds a plan for a version of themselves that plays well.
A stated handicap is not an input about your golf. It is one number describing your outcome, and a plan derived from it can only be a template. Plenty of products are built on exactly that and described as personalised.
How many rounds before it means something
Around ten before the pattern is stable enough that one bad day does not set your practice for a month. Below that you are reading noise as diagnosis.
The exception is penalty strokes. They are rare and expensive, so a pattern shows up almost immediately — three rounds with two penalties each is already a finding, and usually a cheaper fix than anything in your swing.
What the plan can and cannot decide
It can decide what deserves the time. That is the genuinely valuable output and it is usually a correction: golfers reliably blame their driving when the numbers say putting, and seeing that once changes a season of practice.
It cannot decide why. A scorecard says you lose strokes on approach; it does not say whether that is distance control, a face-angle problem or club selection. That needs a swing analysis or a person, which is why the useful pattern is a scorecard setting the priority and something else supplying the content.

FlyAway sits in the second row deliberately: the swing report is ranked against your recorded rounds, so a detected fault that is not costing you strokes ranks below one that is. That pairing is the point, and it depends on you logging rounds honestly — including the ones you would rather forget. The statistics side is where the components come from.
The Grint is worth naming for a different reason. It does not build training plans, but verified scorecards and a clean handicap history are the cleanest possible input to whatever does.
The check to run on any of them
Change something real in your data — log three rounds where you putt badly — and see whether the recommendation moves. If it does not, the plan was written before you arrived.

Yes, and it is worth saying because full shot tracking puts a lot of golfers off. Fairways, greens, putts and penalties are five marks per hole and enough to locate a leak. Shot-by-shot data makes the picture finer; it is not the entry price.
Can a plan built from scorecards tell me what is wrong with my swing?
No, and conflating the two is the common error. A scorecard says where you lose strokes; it cannot say why the ball went there. The useful combination is a scorecard deciding what deserves the practice time and a swing analysis describing what is happening — the first sets the priority, the second the content.
