Aplicaciones de golf para hándicaps altos

Above 20, your score is decided by disasters rather than by the quality of your good shots. Fixing that is a data problem before it is a swing problem — and the data usually contradicts what you believe.

  • Penalty strokes and three-putts cost more than any swing fault
  • The blow-up hole is worth more than the good ones
  • Most golfers blame their driving; the scorecard usually says putting

Where the strokes actually go

Almost never where you think. Ask a golfer above 20 where they lose shots and they will describe the drives; the scorecard usually says putting and penalties. That is not a criticism, it is how memory works — a topped drive is vivid and a routine three-putt is not. Five numbers settle the argument: fairways hit, greens in regulation, putts, scrambling and penalty strokes. Ten rounds of those five is enough to know, and it is the cheapest improvement available to you.

The blow-up hole is the whole game

One hole in eight or nine costs a high handicapper two to four shots beyond their average, and eliminating those is worth more than improving everything else. They are also the most fixable, because they come from decisions rather than from swings: the shot over water that had a route around, the recovery from trees that needed a wedge sideways, the driver on a hole where a five iron reaches the same place. None of that requires a better swing.

Course management, the free improvement

Aim at the middle of the green rather than the flag. Take one more club than you think and swing easier. Play away from the hazard even when the line is longer. Accept the wedge sideways out of trouble. Each of these is worth strokes immediately and costs nothing, and together they are usually a larger gain than a season of range balls — which is why they are the first thing to try and the last thing golfers do.

Where FlyAway fits, and where it does not

Scorecards and statistics are free, and the point of them is the correction: practice priorities are weighted by where the numbers say you lose strokes rather than by what you feel like working on. Swing faults are ranked against that too, so a steep downswing sits below a putting leak if that is what the card says. What we do not have is automatic shot capture — Arccos records every shot with sensors and its data is more complete than anything a phone collects by hand.

Preguntas frecuentes

Where do high handicappers lose the most strokes?

To penalties, three-putts and blow-up holes, in roughly that order, and rarely to the thing they name first. The pattern is consistent enough to plan around: a golfer above 20 who removes two penalty strokes and one three-putt per round drops several shots without hitting the ball any better.

What is the fastest way to break 100?

Stop making doubles rather than start making pars. Eighteen bogeys is 90, so the arithmetic never requires a good hole — only the absence of bad ones. That reframes practice entirely: the wedge from 40 metres and the three-foot putt are worth more than another hour with a driver.

Does course management really help a 20 handicap?

More than anything else available for free. Aiming at the centre of greens, taking an extra club, and playing away from trouble typically saves several shots a round for a golfer whose misses are wide. It works immediately, requires no practice, and is the improvement most often skipped because it feels like giving up rather than like getting better.

What should a high handicapper practise first?

Whatever your own numbers say, which is usually not what you expect. Failing that, the default order is putting from inside three metres, wedges from 40 to 80 metres, then a reliable tee shot that is not necessarily a driver. All three reduce disasters, which is where your score lives.
